In September 2020, three CPI cities in North Sumatra were inflationary, namely Sibolga 0.29 percent Pematangsiantar by 0.29 percent; and Gunung Sitoli by 1.00 percent. Meanwhile, the other two cities, namely the field of deflation 0.05 percent; and Padangsidimpuan deflation 0.12 percent. Thus, the combined 5 CPI cities in North Sumatra in September 2020 deflation of 0.01 percent.
In September 2020, Medan recorded a deflation of 0.05 percent or occurred
a decrease in the Consumer Price Index (CPI) from 102.76 in August 2020 to 102.71 in September 2020. Deflation occurs due to there is a marked reduction in prices, namely the food group, beverages and tobacco by 0.03 percent; clothing group and footwear by 0.09 percent; transportation group of 0.30 percent; and personal care and other services group of 0.55 percent. Expenditure group that experienced an increase in index namely, the group of equipment, tools, and routine home maintenance stairs by 0.10 percent; the health group by 0.19 percent; and the food and beverage / restaurant supply group of 0.09 percent. The other four groups did not change index, namely the housing, water, electricity, and house fuels group stairs; information, communication and financial services group; group recreation, sports and culture; and education groups.
The main commodities contributing to deflation during September 2020 at
Medan, including air transportation, cayenne pepper, eggs, perfume,
oranges, potatoes, and men's jeans.
