Abstract

  • In April 2017, 2 (two) CPI cities in North Sumatra experienced deflation, namely Pematangsiantar of 0.17 percent and Medan by 0.53 percent. While the city of Sibolga experienced inflation of 0.25 percent and inflation Padangsidimpuran 0.21 percent. Thus, North Sumatra in April 2017 experienced deflation of 0.43 percent.

  •  In April 2017, Medan deflation of 0.53 percent or an index decline from 132.33 in March 2017 to 131.63 in April 2017. Deflation occurred due to a decrease in price indicated by the decline of index in the foodstuff category by 3, 09 percent, food, beverage, cigarette and tobacco deflation 0.25 percent, and transportation communication and financial services deflation by 0.12 percent. While the housing, water, electricity, gas and fuel group experienced inflation of 1.04 percent; Inflation by 0.17 percent; Health group by 0,52 percent, and education, recreation and sport group 0,05 percent.

  • The main commodities contributing to deflation during April 2017 in Medan include: red pepper, chicken meat, onion, sugar, air transport, cayenne pepper, and spinach.
  •  Of the 23 CPI cities on Sumatra Island, the highest inflation occurred in Pangkal Pinang at 1.02 percent with CPI 136.08 and the lowest inflation occurred in Tembilahan by 0.02 percent with CPI 131.29. While the highest deflation occurred in Lhokseumawe by 0.68 percent with CPI 121.70 and the lowest deflation occurred in Palembang by 0.08 percent with CPI 125.51.

  •  In Indonesia, in April 2017 from 82 cities observed by Consumer Price Index (IHK), 53 cities experienced inflation, where the highest inflation occurred in Pangkal Pinang by 1.02 percent with CPI 136.08. While the lowest inflation occurred in Cilacap by 0.01 percent with CPI 130.60
