Abstract

Farmers Terms of Trade (NTP) is a comparison of the price index received by farmers (It) to the price index paid by farmers (Ib).

NTP is one indicator to see the level of ability/purchasing power of farmers in rural areas. NTP also shows the exchange power (terms of trade) of agricultural products with goods and services consumed as well as for production costs.

In May 2023, the NTP of North Sumatra Province (2018=100) was recorded at 123.51, down 2.30 percent compared to April 2023's NTP, which was 126.42.

The decrease in the May 2023 NTP was caused by a decrease in the NTP of two sub-sectors, namely the NTP in the Horticulture sub-sector by 0.07 percent and the NTP in the People's Plantation Plants sub-sector by 4.37 percent. Meanwhile, the NTP of three other sub-sectors experienced an increase, namely the Food Crops sub-sector by 0.29 percent, the Livestock sub-sector by 2.16 percent, and the Fisheries sub-sector by 0.10 percent.

The Agricultural Household Business Exchange Rate (NTUP) for North Sumatra Province in May 2023 was 120.56 or a decrease of 2.44 percent compared to the previous month's NTUP.
