Abstract

EXPORT
• The value of exports through the port of loading in the North Sumatra region in May 2020 decreased compared to April 2020, from US $ 597.47 million to US $ 519.19 million or decreased by 13.10 percent. When compared with May 2019, North Sumatra exports decreased by 23.36 percent.
• The group of goods that experienced the largest increase in export value of North Sumatra in May 2020 against April 2020 was the tobacco group of US $ 15.14 million (271.62%). The biggest decrease in export value occurred in the animal / vegetable fats and oils group of US $ 37.16 million (-17.32%).
• Exports to China in May 2020 were the largest at US $ 84.97 million followed by the United States at US $ 59.01 million and Japan at US $ 31.34 million with the contribution of the three reaching 33.77 percent.
• According to the group of main export destinations in May 2020, exports to the Asian region (outside ASEAN) were the largest with a value of US $ 188.04 (36.22 percent).


IMPORT
• Import value through North Sumatra in May 2020 on the basis of CIF (cost, insurance & freight) of US $ 267.16 million, or a decrease of 24.01 percent compared to April 2020 which reached US $ 351.59 million. When compared with the same month in the previous year, the value of imports decreased by 34.99 percent.
• Import value by category of use of goods in May 2020 compared to April 2020, capital goods fell by 1.85 percent, raw / auxiliary materials decreased by 26.55 percent and consumption goods decreased by 23.88 percent.
• In May 2020, the group of goods that experienced the highest increase in import value was wheat by US $ 1.18 million (8.68%). The category of goods that experienced the greatest decline in the value of imports was the pulp / residue of the food industry by US $ 9.72 million (-22.15%).
• The May 2020 import value from China was the largest at US $ 86.01 million with a contribution of 32.19 percent of total North Sumatra imports, followed by Argentina at US $ 33.01 million (12.35%) and the United States at US $ 25 25 million (9.45%).
