ECONOMIC GROWTH OF NORTH SUMATERA QUARTER I-2019

- The economy of North Sumatra based on the amount of the Gross Regional Domestic Product (GRDP) based on current prices in the first quarter of 2019 reached Rp 192.03 trillion and at the base of constant prices in 2010 reached Rp 130.63 trillion.
- The economy of North Sumatra in the first quarter of 2019 compared to the first quarter of 2018 grew 5.30 percent (y-on-y) compared to the achievements in the first quarter of 2018 of 4.73 percent. From the production side, the highest growth was achieved by the Information and Communication business sector by 8.96 percent. In terms of expenditure, the highest growth was in the PK-LNPRT component which grew by 23.85 percent.
- The economy of North Sumatra in the first quarter of 2019 compared to the previous quarter fell by 0.42 percent (q-to-q). From the production side, the decline was caused by a contraction that occurred in several business fields. Meanwhile, in terms of expenditure, the decline was caused partly by contraction in all components except PK-LNPRT Components and Inventory Changes.
- Spatial economic structure in North Sumatra Island in quarter I-2019 was dominated by several provinces including North Sumatra Province giving the largest contribution to GRDP on Sumatra Island by 23.33 percent, followed by Riau Province by 22.42 percent, South Sumatra Province by 13.13 percent, and Lampung Province 10.59 percent. While the lowest contribution was made by Bengkulu Province and Bangka Belitung Islands Province.
